Lose Your Peripheral Vision, Gain More Focus
Besides being an NPA, I’m also a book addict.
Not really fiction books. I love how-to’s and psychology and crafting and art and cooking and pets and a range of other topics depending on my mood.
The problem I have is that everytime I allow myself to browse the bookstore, I end up buying something that usually pulls me away from what I’m supposed to be working on.
For example, I’ll get a book on origami. Then I’ll spend hours (or days) folding paper, when I’m supposed to be finishing a project.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a productive break.
But once I really get into a new book, it’s hard for me to break away from it. And heaven help me if my daughter finds the acitivity in the book fun too.
So I’m finding that when I’m really focused on a specific task, I won’t give myself the pleasure of buying any new books until I’m done.
(Which is REALLY hard since I walk past a great, big bookstore on the way to pick up my daughter from school.)
What subtle distractions do you have? What types of things typcially lead you into New Project Purgatory?
Cut it out of your project time with a cold turkey swiftness.
Starting today.
Takin’ it one project at a time,
